Every since, I was little, when people would ask me what my last name, and I would tell them and then they would ask me if I was related to So-and-So Vickery and I would tell them that I didn't know, because I didn't know anything about my grandfather [Jesse Dewitt ]'s family. The only thing that I knew what that my grandfather had a brother [William Hightower] and some of his family, but as far as anyone else other than my cousins, I didn't know anything...
When I was older, I got into the computer age and started to gather information from people on the internet and of course family members, they have helped more than they will ever know. Because of them, I have gotten further than I have ever thought that I possibly could have gotten, and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart. With their hard research and my willingness to learn from these people that done a lot of work, I have gone further than I have ever imagined.
Most of the names that I have done some research are: Vickery, Boatright, Adams, Hembree, Skipwith, De Estoteville, Harbin, Moss, O'Bryant, Maret(t), James, Hannon, Hightower and countless others than I could ever remember and if I have forgotten the surnames, please forgive me. With some of the surnames, I have been able to find their origin and where they came from and who was the first person to start that family. The only thing that I can find out about the progenitor of my Vickery family was Joseph Vickery, who was born in Scotland [but that is according to the Daughters of the American Revolution {DAR}] and that he died in Georgia and according to my family history, the Vickery's have been the Georgia area for the past 300 +/- years and in some areas the name Vickery is well known.
